Hello,

(I'm French)

NetBSD 5.1 (32, 64) are installed on two computers, without desktop environment.
I wish create a file who contains the links for easy install without use allways "export PKGPATH" :

pkgadd gnome

pkgadd firefox

etc.

I've read documentation about rc.conf, but I've not found any information for this.
Please, if you know that, give me links or informations.
Thanks.
Greetings

Hello ripskee,

Hello ripskee,

Thanks for informations and feedback.
actually, I try to install NBSD 5.0 by pkg_add + network for binaries packages, such gnome, firefox, and there is only a primary partition on (hd1,0) Unix (=wd1). Later, once NetBSD fully OK, I will try install OpenBSD or DesktopBSD for see the interactions/interdependencies between them.
When I wanted install NBSD, there are at these moments two primaries partitions : NetBSD and no formated by gparted.
with 2 prim. partitions, the disklabel into NetBSD is nont complete. After deleting the 2nd primary partition, the disklabel was complete.
For sysisnt, partiton before or after is the same thing : problem.
Goodbye

Hello,

Since some days, I try install binaries with pkg_add "url/package-name".
Answers : no package ... and no route for "IPV6 url".
I'm beginer, it's a bit difficult with IPV4, but with IPV6 that is very difficult.
This is not a choice IPV6. I don't know why it's used.
When I ping the mirrors as ftp://ftp.netbsd.org, there are no loss datas.
I've installed there some months OpenBSD with CD and network successfully.
I've also installed NetBSD 3.1GNOME with ISO i386.pkg.iso, but also problem with network (install binaries).
Please, help me, because this is a big frustation.
Thanks,

Hello,

I come to thank you for your help and say resolved problem.
In the link you have done, a member has answer. He has only added in his rc.conf :

dhclient=YES

as you propose.
Before, I've "diesed" auto_ifconfig=YES and the lines in ifconfig.rtk0.
I-ve forgot /etc/mygate.
Since some days, I've desactived "ifconfig_rtk0="DHCP"" because conflicts with other parameters.
Now, I known two ways for configure NIC : DHCP and auto_ifconfig=YES

For my other problem, two members have installed NetBSD with DesktopBSD OR OpenBSD already installed : no troubleshooting.
They and me don't understand.
Happy week-end,

Hello RoddieRod,

Now, the network runs.

rc.conf
aoto_ifconfig=YES

ifconfig.rtk0
inet 192.168.2.111
netmask 255.255.255.0
media autoselect

Now, I wish DHCP for RTL 8139.
A member guest me to read man pages for dhclient and dhclient.conf.
This appears to me not simple.
I wish also install a desktop as gnome or kde via pkg_add as I've done with OpenBSD.
pkg_add : for install binaries packages?
pkg_src : for compile and install?
Thank you very for your help.
Good bye

RoddieRod,

Thanks for your answer.
Please, where I must write 'ifconfig_rtk0="DHCP"'?
I've tried in /etc/rc.conf : no change for the network.
Also, I've created a file :

/etc/mygate

with the default gateway before add the previous line in /etc/rc.conf
For advance,
thanks,

ahlsner

PS : i've read your answer in General BSD

RoddieRod,

The last time, I've forgot forgot fdisk.

Hello RoddieRod,

Thanks for answer.
On a PC, I've three primary partitions :
-ext3 very small
-DesktopBSD (FreeBSD) : now HS, after install NetBSD 3.1
-NetBSD 3.1,

On an other PC, I had an OpenBSD partion
For install NetBSD 5.0, I've deleted OpenBSD), because sysinst  cannot NetBSD 5.0/4.0 : it sees two / :
-/ of OpenBSD
-/ of NetBSD, and in the disklabel I can't create all partitions in this slice

In the PC with DesktopBSD, NetBSD 5.0/4.0 do not can install, always two /
In this same computer, NetBSD 3.1 is installed OK, with all mounting partitons points, but now DesktopBSD is broken. I see also two /, but the installation does not abort, and DesktopBSD does not boot.

Synthesis

Hi all,

I've tried to install successfully  "NetBSD 3.1", but my DesktopBSD is broken, does not start.
With NetBSD 4 or 5, sysinst halts because there are two "/" for it.
With NetBSD 3.1, the installation is complete (creating partition and disklabel), but sysinst brokes FreeBSD (I haven't tried for OpenBSD)
There a big problem for install NetBSD when OpenBSD, or FreeBSD is present
Please, return experiences.
Thanks,

Hello,

After the installation, and before reboot, the network is ok (Ethernet RTL 6139) : inet, gateway
After reboot, the card is "not configured".
ifconfig rtk0 : not inet adress
ifconfig up rtk0 does not change anything.
ping "gateway IP" : unknown host.
I've tried ifconfig inet 192.168.1.4 rtk0 : OK, but gateway (router) does not answer.
Thanks for help.

Hello,

sysinst sees OpenBSD or FreeBSD (here DesktopBSD) as / and abort install because two "/" exist together.
Also, the disklabel is incomplete : can't create all mountinf points for partitions.
Thanks,
