Topic: Difference between SFTP and SCP

Hi,

Beat me if it's a stupid question (stupid questions exist ?!)

What's the difference between SFTP and SCP.

Thank you

Re: Difference between SFTP and SCP

sftp is ftp with ssl.
scp copies a file using ssh.

Trust me, I know what I'm doing.

Re: Difference between SFTP and SCP

I use sftp using ssh protocol, and actually I don't even see an ssl sftp connection option in my client.

(filezilla sftp using ssh2)

Re: Difference between SFTP and SCP

Right, you mean that sftp ... I got confused between ftps and sftp, sorry.

Trust me, I know what I'm doing.

Re: Difference between SFTP and SCP

oh yeah ftps!

forgot about that one smile

Re: Difference between SFTP and SCP

SFTP has an interactive mode and SCP (AFAIK) does not. Also you can disable SFTP. I don't know about any other differences.

Re: Difference between SFTP and SCP

Also, scp was implemented as a secure alternative to rcp.
