Topic: What ISPs are available near an address without a telephone?

I have rented a new apartment, and I don't yet have a telephone and want to find an ISP. I will ask the telephone service provider, but I thought someone here might be less likely to tell me that my only option is to go with the telephone service provider as my ISP. How can I find one?

This is in Mountain View, California USA.

Here in the UK a broadband provider will tell you if they can provide to your residence - and what is required to do so.

I use a cable modem - so do not use a phone service to connect to the Internet

That makes sense, but I would first have to know what broadband provider to contact. What broadband providers are available in a given area?

there is a find service feature on dslreports.com (contrary to the name, they have stuff about all types of internet service, not just DSL.).

a lot of times you can get DSL through your phone line without having phone service. that's what I've got. I've had DSL with Speakeasy and now with Verizon.

Thanks, that looks like what I wanted.
