Topic: dns...

i recently install a small proxy with openbsd squid and dansguardian in my lan ... when i leave it open my isdn router is calling again and again in my provider sad i speak with my isp and they tell me that my server is making dns requests every 30 minites and my rourer is making calls does anyone know witch service is making the requests ?

Re: dns...

No, but if you run tcpdump(1) while it dials in, you will see the dns request package, with its source port. If you then quickly run lsof(8), you can see which process has opened that port. Or maybe the tcpdump output on its own is enough if you enable full packet parsing; you should see which DNS address is being requested, that might give you some hints too.

Re: dns...

try to setup a dns cache server too and set it on the resolv.conf as default dns server

but i don't think that is a good idea to use ISDN in a corporate enviroment. The safest solution is to close your modem wink
