I started noticing this in my messages file running Freebsd 6.3

I got similar one: sometimes if deadlock happen (is some part of kernel, eating almost all CPU time), if I enter manul to debugger in wrong time or when livelock happen. Also it can happen on some laptops after longer uptime (look in your powerd flags).
You can try experimenting and changing kern.timecounter.hardware to something other than what it is already configured. (store value in sysctl.conf not in loader.conf)
To see list of possible entries look output in kern.timecounter.choice

I have the same problem, it seems appears when the CPU is stressed, sometimes crashing the system.
Haven't look at solutions yet.

Trust me, I know what I'm doing.
