Topic: Sane without gimp plugins ?

Hi,
I have an old laptop, toshiba 128mb of ram and a celeron 400mhz.

Well installed NetBSD3_BETA, I then downloaded the latest pkgsrc.tar.gz and I installed firefox-bin, suse9, java, etc.

I also installed gimp1.

I'm using twm, for purposes it's enough.

The reason why installed gimp1 is because installing gimp2 will take too much time to compile.
With gimp1 is a little fast (in fact it has few dependecies than gimp2).

For my purposes gimp1 is enough.

Okay, now I have to connect my epson scanner to my laptop.

The *problem*, *my problem*, is that sane and xsane packages depend on gimp2 >= 2.0.6, you know I have 1.2.5 installed.

Running make for xsane packages it tried to install gimp2 so I aborted it because I don't want have to wait a lot of hours.

My question is this: is there a way to have a scanner installed to read images without having to use gimp2 support ?

What I need is some kind of scanner utilities that let me scan some images that I will elaborate with my gimp1.

I like the command line so I can accept to launch a command to scan some pictures.

Thank You,
smile
