Topic: NetBSD sushi(8) is dead

Hubert Feyrer wrote:

sushi(8) was intended to be ``a menu based system administration tool'' along the lines of HP/UX' sam and AIX' smit. While the visual (curses) appearance was pretty much there, the tool was not very stable, and thus used by few people. After quite some time of no progress, it was removed from the NetBSD base system and moved to othersrc.

The future of sushi(8) remains to be seen, patches can be sent via sent-pr by interested parties.

Out of personal interest, I'm wondering if anyone really used sushi(8) and will miss it. If so, drop me mail and I'll summarize here next week!

Personally, I never used it - and I'm betting KernelPaniced will be happy to see it go too! tongue

Re: NetBSD sushi(8) is dead

Well, I ordered sushi once but when it came, I said, "HEY.  This fish is raw, take it back and cook it please."

I've never used it.  I don't really like smit either, it's just that I'm not familiar enough with AIX to do some things without it.

Never used sushi in Net but used smit in AIX and if anyone wishes to see what it looks like, the menu smit in AIX that is:

                               System Management

Move cursor to desired item and press Enter.

  Software Installation and Maintenance
  Software License Management
  Devices
  System Storage Management (Physical & Logical Storage)
  Security & Users
  Communications Applications and Services
  Print Spooling
  Advanced Accounting
  Problem Determination
  Performance & Resource Scheduling
  System Environments
  Processes & Subsystems
  Applications
  Installation Assistant
  Cluster Systems Management
  Using SMIT (information only)

F1=Help             F2=Refresh          F3=Cancel           F8=Image
F9=Shell            F10=Exit            Enter=Do

Re: NetBSD sushi(8) is dead

SMIT rules! .. well the deal is that AIX has a 'registry'.. so doing stuff cli style will appear to work, but not completly.  For things to work 100% you have to use smit.  Its not that hard, you have to remember that that computer is running AIX not SYSVR4 or BSD4.x

Re: NetBSD sushi(8) is dead

Hrrm, does that include passwd?  (That's one where it's much simpler to do it at the prompt.
